Law No 1 - Don't settle for being Money Rich - Time Poor.

7 Laws(3) to Making it, without  Losing in Life

  • Law No 1 - Don't settle for being Money Rich - Time Poor (4)

Living in a century where the culture is one of almost working yourself to death, this is a law worth taking to heart. You will never regret the decision.

So what does it mean to be "Money Rich and Time Poor"? To a certain degree it is self explanatory but for those of you who are still not sure here are a few examples:

The New Poor - These people have a high standard of living but a poor quality of life. They have every time-saving gadget and yet complain bitterly that 'there aren't enough hours in the day'. They have the very latest in communication technolgy - you can reach them anywhere, anytime - but they find communicating with those they love almost impossible. They have a second home but they have precious few hours in the first one. They have everything and they have nothing

They have left for the office long before their children are awake and can't remember when last they read them a bedtime story. They have little time for their friends but have health cover, are members of a fitness club, the company they work for runs in-house stress awareness courses, but they are screwed up. They don't sleep well and are heading for a second heart attack.

And of all the issues this character has failed to grasp, none is more damaging than that of  'time poverty' - cash rich, time poor.

A small boy once said to his mother, 'Why does my father come home later than all the other kids' dads?"

His mother said, 'Well, because he can't finish all his work in the normal time.'

The child paused for a moment and said, "Why don't they put him in a slower class?"

This is most definitely food for thought...

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy has been around for probably as long as what the earth has existed. The term "Aromatherapy"was only coined in the latter years of A.D. Different cultures have had different expressions of aromatherapy, the earliest documented cases being 3000 BC in ancient Egypt.

So what exactly is Aroma-therapy? Aromatherapy is an art and science which makes use of essential oils to promote health and treat various conditions. it is a holistic therapy which promotes the health of body, mind and spirit. These volatile aroma compunds are derived from plants and extracted by various methods.

Although the word "aroma" suggests that only your olfactory system is gaining the benefit of the essential oils this is a bit of a misnomer, as essentiial oils are used in various ways, of which inhalation is but one.

The skin is the body's largest organ and iit is common in aromatherapy, to be the one organ mostly utilised for the transfer of the healing properties of the essential oils to the body. Essential oils as a rule should not be taken internally and also not applied "neat" to the skin but rather blended with a carrier oil that is not synthetic. However essential oils can be mixed in any one of the following carriers - dependent on the method of use:

  • Milk
  • Water
  • Oil eg. Almond, jojoba, avocado, grape seed oil etc
  • Alcohol

Herewith are a few methods of use: shower, sauna, room sprays, bath, jacuzzi, massage, hand/foot bath, humidifiers, inhalation (inhale the steam, not the neat essential oil), candles, burners etc. It is important to note that essential oils are best used before a sauna or shower or at least an hour thereafter, as the body is in an elimination process before that.

Although essential oils should not be applied "neat" to the skin, there is one exception to this rule in Lavender. This versatile oil has an ability to lend itself to any method of application.

Cautionary measures: Using "more" than the recommended dosage will not enhance or speed up the healing process. Please adhere to recommended dosage, as more could be toxic if not lethal. Children: Ages 3-12, use half the number of drops for bathing and massage, Babies: 1-2  drops are sufficient. Be careful not to get in eyes and mouth. If you are pregnant, suffer from high or low blood pressure or epilepsy, please consult with a qualified aromatherapist or medical doctor prior to use.

So how does aromatherapy work? Firstly the skin is semi-permeable which means that certain substances can penetrate the skin. Essential oils are made up of molecules that are small enough to penetrate the skin via hair follicles and spaces between the cells. They are easily absorbed into the lymphatic system and eventually circulate throughout the whole body. A second way the essential oils reach your body are via your olfactory system. Your main olfactory system which is used for smell, detects volatile airborne substances. Essential oils are then detected by the brain via the olfactory system. The brain will recall an association. ie Lavender reminds you of your granny - this in turn will instill a sense of wellbeing if you had a wonderful relationship with her or might have a negative effect if it reminded you of her death.

The brain on receiving the message caused by the stimulis of the essential oil, might well respond by sending an appropriate message to the part/organ of the body, hence stimulating healing.

This explains why the benefits of aromatherapy are holistic as it effects the body on many levels, physical, emotional and spiritual. Some common ailments that can be treated using essential oils are: Aches and pains, allergies, anxiety, stress, inflammation, insomnia, conjestion, constipation. Just to mention a few.

So you have heard of the therapeutic benefits of Aromatherapy and are wondering where to start? The following oils are great for everyday use:

  • Lavender - Versatile and safe to use. (When uncertain of which oil to use.) It enhances all other oils.
  • Rose - Effective treatment for feminine problems & impotence. Has effect on the body & mind, especially the reproductive system.
  • Rosemary - Powerful stimulant (body and mind)
  • Juniper - Detoxifying oil (body and mind)
  • Geranium - Balancing (body and mind)
  • Tea Tree - Anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal

However the World of Aromatherapy is vast, as is the variety of essential oils that are available. Essential Oils should be purchased from a reputable source.

This will not only ensure the quality of the oil but also the correct storage and application thereof. Enabling you to broaden your knowledge as well as expereince Aromatherapy and all it has to offer. Your local Aromatherapist or Health shop will be more than willing to help you with oils that will be effective for your well being.

Take the plunge and enjoy the journey...

7 Laws to Making it, without Losing in Life

For a very long time I have been asking questions like: "What is my purpose?",  "What was I created for?",  "Who am I? ", "What is this all for?",  "Why am I doing it?" and "What does it mean to be successful - can you make it and still have a life?"(1) A question I came across reccently which was asked by a young student, whose father had died the previous year and for all intensive purposes had been successful but, it had come at a price he had no time for his family.

All are valid questions and possibly ones you have asked yourself if not once, at least a couple times before. I have learnt a lot in my journey, looking for the answer to a few of these questions and I would really like to share a few nuggets I picked up just today.(2)

7 Laws(3) to Making it, without  Losing in Life

  • No 1 - Don't settle for being Money Rich - Time Poor.
  • No 2 - Believe that the Job you do Makes a Difference.
  • No 3 - Play to your Strength - Find your  Factor X.
  • No 4 - Believe in the Power of Dreams.
  • No 5 - Put your Family before your career.
  • No 6 - Keep the Common Touch.
  • No 7 - Don't Settle for Success: Make a Difference - Strive for Significance

I hope to be touching on a few of these over the next few days. If you would like to read the nuggets in their original form for yourself, then get The Heart of Success - Making it in business without losing your life - Rob Parsons ISBN 0-340-78623

THE ILLUSIVE RESULTS OF TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIES

I do not know about you, but I am getting really frustrated with these ICT strategy results that seem to be more illusive than anything else in this world.

Just how many technology (especially ICT) strategies give the desired outcomes?

Are we brave enough to look into the past to see the impact that the technology strategies have had on our businesses or organizations?

Or do we simply go ahead and create a new strategy for three more years?

You might have a different approach to this or even know how to overcome this problem.

DEBT COUNCILLOR NEGLIGENT

I was a member of a certin debt councillor, all my documents have been submitted for my creditors to be paid. I then started receiveing notices from my bond granter advising ,. no payments are being made and the bond is i n arrears. When following up with the debt councillor, I was advised that the bond account number on the bond statement is incorrect. For four months I have been debited an amount of which a portion was to be paid towards the bond.  The bond then went into further arrears, resulting in me nearly losing my house. I had to make a loan at work to settle the arrears, putting me further in debt.

The debt councillor maintains that the incorrect bond number was onthe statement. I had the bond for  years, how now is that they claim the bond number is incorrect. The bank changed the account number for 6 months after I went under debt review. When I requested the Cetificate of balance from the debt councillor, they advised me, that the bank did not forward it to them, therefore they went onthe information supplied on the bond statement. A bank cannot reject any payment if they had changed the account, if payments are being made to the "old account number", then surely the bank should be able to allocate it to the new account number.

The debt councillor has rejected all claims of negligence against them,  A complaint has been laid with the NCR, which too was not of any assistance. Seeking legal advise too did not help.

If there is some one out there, that can provide advise, please be so kind as to contact me.I need to get back the money that I borrowed to settle the arrears.

Should I fix my property up before selling or letting it?

As a property broker I get asked this quite a lot or on the other hand when I show a unit that is looking a bit tired or has been left broken, I often get asked by the potential buyer/ tenant why the building is in such a state.
This is not a one brush coats all situation (no pun intended), each building would have to be judged by its own merit.
I am going to attempt to outline scenarios where I would & wouldn’t fix up before letting or selling.

What happens if you target 10% growth?

Do you set yourself targets for the growth of your business? Or are you just a small business survivor? When people ask you how’s business, do you say “Okay, not too bad” or do you say “We are aiming at 10% growth this year and so far we’re on target”.Would you agree that, if your business is reasonably stable and you’re keeping your head above water, that you can manage to reach 10% growth? To use the jargon, do you have the capacity for 10% growth?

I want to show you what happens if you decide to grow your client base by 10% and get your clients to spend 10% more on average. We’re not looking at how to do this here; we’re just going to do some sums. The result may get you really motivated!

I learned this formula at a Nedbank small business networking seminar (watch out for them in the press, they are free) from a dynamic speaker, Bill Gibson from Knowledge Brokers International (KBI). He has an excellent website – www.kbitraining.com. His sales tools are top of the industry and his sales blogs are a must read.
